“I spent a few years working with Ethan professionally, and then many more knowing him as a friend—like many people who are true creatives, there isn’t a lot of boundary or distinction between Ethan the person and Ethan the professional: both are meticulous, imaginative, hard-working, and obsess lovingly on the little things that elevate a creative project. Speaking more on the professional level, he is very self-directed and always has his own ideas, but sees the benefit of collaboration. And in terms of quality of ideas and skills, his portfolio speaks for itself.”

“MEET” ETHAN: BIOGRAPHY

ETHAN GABRIEL HUNT—
MISSION IMPOSSIBLE:ROGUE NATION

I am NOT an actor, but I think this is a cool way to “meet” me. Because of my name, I was contacted by Paramount Pictures to participate in a special promo shoot for the DVD release of “Mission: Impossible—Rogue Nation.” No Ethan’s were harmed in the filming of this video.
Ethan was that kid—the kid who was always getting into trouble sketching, coloring and making little functioning machines out of rubberbands and scraps. He kept scrap paper for projects, daydreamed, but did not eat glue. It was the 80s; creativity was suppressed or punished in schools back then, but little Ethan pushed on.
He grew up addicted to the show “Bewitched” and told people that when he grew up, he wanted to be the show’s Darrin Stevens. Not knowing exactly what it was that Darrin did, all he knew was that he saw a man who was paid to draw and tell people that they needed things based on his drawings. This was Ethan’s first exposure to the world of design, entertainment and advertising. He never imagined that his sketching and creative tendencies would never actually become a viable career.
Ethan grew up, attended Drexel University and almost died due to the intensity of the curriculum—an intensity that gave him an edge in the saturated northeast advertising industry. His career started in an era where print was king and web was just getting started, so the bedrock of his skill set comes from print, typography and publication design. His career in advertising was headed in the right direction when he was brought in to work for firms such as Young & Rubicam and Campbell-Mithun on campaigns for Jaguar, Land Rover and DirecTV. Working through the ranks, Ethan quickly gained a reputation for being meticulous, thoughtful and creatively motivated.
There was a giant curve ahead for Ethan. When advertising tanked following the events of September 11, he was forced to take an unexpected turn in his career path to a military career that paralleled his civilian one. Ethan served in the United States Coast Guard as one of only seventy-seven national Public Affairs officers responsible for recruitment advertising and public relations. For Ethan, this was quite and adjustment—he thrived nonetheless, considering it to be a chance to broaden his experience. Though unplanned at the time, his military service afforded him the opportunity to return to college and update his skills by attending The University of California Los Angeles campus. It was there as a student in the Design Communication Arts Programme that Ethan became more adept in responsive design, social media and developing online content.
Ethan has worked in his hometown of Philadelphia to New York City to D.C. to Los Angeles and back to New York. Considering this, Ethan has seen a well-rounded landscape of different design styles, agencies and work environments. He is a methodical and strategically-focused art director adept in creating design solutions that follow the spirit of the creative brief while still managing to be visually stimulating. The Adobe Creative Suite are the closes thing that he has to siblings.
Ethan and active AIGA member, contributes his free time to volunteerism and is available in the New York City metropolitan area.

DESIGN INSPIRATION

    WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?
